FigTek Photo Booth Hire and Sales. Legit?

So one of the perks of being so heavily involved in the Photo Booth hire industry and running BoothCon is that people come to me to ask my opinion or to tell me about experiences they have had with industry suppliers and manufacturers. Recently I have had someone come to me asking about a new business called Figtek and wanting to know if I thought they were legit or a scam as the online reviews they had found weren't good or if they were they didn't sound genuine to them.

As I had never heard of them (strange but not necessarily an indicator of legitimacy) my first stop was to check out their website. The site states they are a photo booth hire business and a manufacturer/re-seller or photo booths and industry equipment. The ABN listed on the site belongs to a Peostagy Pty Ltd company which was only incorporated late in 2016 so they are clearly fairly new. Intrigued I checked out their booths to see what sort of booths they were selling and was surprised to find a picture of a Canadian booth which as far as I knew was not being manufactured for sale by anyone in Oz. The reason I knew was I have the same picture on the Photobooth Finder website since 2014 and the owners of that booth has told me so. Things change of course, anything is possible so I tried to phone Fig Tek to ascertain if they were legitimately selling it or what the deal was but the number rang out. No answer system, nothing. Eager to find out what was really going on I contacted the owners of the booth in Canada and was told that they had not given anybody the rights to use the image outside their Canadian business other than me let alone allowed anyone to manufacture or re-sell their design. 

Whilst all this was going on I received information from a number of booth operators advising me they had all had clients tell them they had initially booked FigTek for their events only to have them cancel on them last minute and be threatened with no refunds if they complained. As I can not personally substantiate this information despite trusting the sources I will rack this up to heresay but I would say you need to do your research no matter who you book or buy a photo booth from and then you can make up your own mind as to whether they are legit or not. 

15 May 2017 UPDATE - Fig Tek have since taken down the offending image.

8 June 2017 UPDATE - I have spoken to the owner of FigTek, Tom. He has verified that FigTek is a real business and he urges anyone who is interested in FigTek's booths to head over and view them for themselves at their showroom 15 Pascoe St, Pascoe Vale, Victoria.
